The Inspiration:
The last few years drove most of our astrological interactions and our practices on-line. Whilst this has advantages, most of us need and crave more personal, embodied connections. Interest in astrology is soaring, and much excellent content is available to the discerning student, but learning a social art is not so easy - nor really possible - in a vacuum. We feel strongly that those passionate about astrology need opportunities to meet one another face-to-face, to create connections, inspire new directions, and initiate joint projects. Yet we were looking for something a bit different to a formal conference: we want a relaxed and fun forum that really fosters relationships, spontaneity and inspiration, and works out of the very flow of life that underlies all astrology.
Dancing with the Stars, an astrological unconference:
The weekend will in part be a co-creative event. Whilst there will be some more structured presentations, come prepared to contribute - you might have an idea or vision to share, a question or chart you would like discussed, a short presentation on a topic you’re passionate about, an astrologically-related activity, exercise or game, All will be collated and will help to construct the weekend so that it feeds and stimulates, and encourages you to be an active participant. But don’t let this put you off if you’d prefer to just come and soak it all up!
The Weekend:
We start Friday evening with a welcome, a shared meal and a session to get to know each other, gather contributions and build together a flexible agenda for the weekend. Saturday and Sun mornings are dedicated to timetabled talks or workshops. Speakers include Christine Broadbent, Alan Clay and Graham Ibell. The afternoons of both days will be open to whatever moves or us. For this we have the use of six separate spaces of various size. Some may ask for a tutorial; others to discuss a horary chart; a group may form to unfold a facilitated astro-drama or explore local space astrology; some may offer to give readings; perhaps inspires a ‘fishbowl’ debate on ethics in astrology, or the role of fate; a game of ‘Astro-Dixit’… There will be plenty of time for socialising, including during morning and afternoon breaks (drinks and food provided) and Saturday evening, and there’ll be generous lunch and dinner breaks.
The Venue:
For most of the weekend we will have exclusive use of the Newtown Community Centre in Wellington’s vibrant suburb of Newtown, just off the main Adelaide Road. Recently upgraded, this comfortable facility includes a theatre, dance hall, seminar room, two smaller meeting rooms, well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable lounge area. There are a diverse range of interesting cafés in the area. Parking nearby is possible after 5pm Friday and over the weekend. Many bus lines pass within a minute’s walk.
Pricing:
$150 for the whole weekend if booked before 17th August, otherwise $190. This includes morning and afternoon teas and a light supper on Friday. We offer a $30 discount for those willing and able to accommodate an out-of-town participant - please let us know whether you would like or can offer accommodation when you make your booking. Any Friday workshops offered will be an additional cost.

Wellington Astrology Collective is a is a guild of astrologers committed to quality, professional astrology readings, analysis & teaching. Birthed on 29th January 2011 at its home just off Cuba Street, WAC hosted a variety of talks, workshops and consultation opportunities for many years before closing the office and moving solely on-line. After a low profile these past years, and with the astrological climate warming WAC hopes to once again revitalise astrology in the capital and NZ. The team who are co-ordinating this gathering are Erika Grant, Graham Ibell and Pepe Becker.
