For well over 2 millennia the I Ching - the Book (Ching) of Change (I) - has been a valued aid in decision making and in deeply understanding the world.
As an oracle that arises from the observation that life on earth involves change, it provides rich pictures that help reflect and answer questions - earnest and trivial, inner and practical - and thus help us navigate life’s tumultuous and change-full journey.
Sometimes a wise-counsel, sometimes a patient parent, perhaps a sage, a mirror, an oracle, even a dear friend, but always incisively reflective of the creative processes that lives through us, shapes us.
I firmly believe that the study and use of the I Ching over my lifetime has made me a better astrologer, and continues to do so: I understand change better in my and others’ lives; I am able to ‘hear’ more acutely; I am able to see more easily the cosmic drama manifesting on earth; and I am better able to relate to astrology through a framework of divination.
In this 6-class weekly workshop I hope to help you come into an affectionate, respectful, loyal and playful working relationship with this most wonderful companion so you, too, can be deeply helped in making decisions, understanding processes, and generally reading the change that is working through your life more clearly.
You will have several opportunities to work with your own questions and get feedback. Through this you will see the wisdom and support of this ancient oracle really come alive.
This workshop will include
- a little history behind the I Ching
- some underlying philosophy. Yin & Yang. Change.
- the 8 trigrams, as spirits or archetypal energies, and their ‘later heaven’ arrangement
- the structure of hexagrams through their constituent lines
- the 64 hexagrams
- working with the imagery of the I Ching
- consulting the I Ching, and using it in your life
It’s not essential to have a book copy of a translation for the purposes of this class, as several are available on the net, but it would probably be helpful. The Wilhelm-Baines English version is widely available, new or second hand, and I would recommend translations by Hillary Barrett or Stephen Karcher. Other helpful resources will be shared in the workshop.
Prerequisites: none! Come as a complete beginner or someone who regular uses the I Ching but wants to develop your relationship with it.
Wednesday evenings, on Zoom, starting 24th April 2024 from 7-9pm NZ local time (07:00-09:00 GMT previous day). Cost NZ$225.
Workshop Dates: 24/4, 1/5, 8/5, 22/5, 29/5, 5/6 [note, no class on the 15/5]
